Continuing review + Trial Work
After approval, two things matter: SSA periodically re-checks (CDR), and you can try to work without losing benefits (Trial Work Period → Extended Period of Eligibility). Track both here.
CDR & TWP status (2026)
Monthly earnings (TWP / SGA tracking)
9 TWP months leftLog gross earnings and Impairment-Related Work Expenses (IRWE) per month. Countable = gross − IRWE. Bluebook flags any month over the SGA threshold ($1690). Months with countable ≥ $1210 count as TWP months.
- No earnings logged.
Quick reference (2026)
- Trial Work Period: 9 months of any earnings within a rolling 60-month window. Countable ≥ $1210 counts as a TWP month. SSDI keeps paying through all 9.
- Extended Period of Eligibility (EPE): 36 months after TWP ends. Months over SGA ($1690) = no benefit. Months under = benefit.
- IRWE: medical out-of-pocket needed to work (transit assist, attendant care, special equipment, copays for needed meds) — subtracts from gross to compute countable earnings.
- Cessation: First month over SGA after TWP triggers a 3-month grace period, then benefits stop until you drop below SGA again or restart.
- CDR cycle: Improvement Expected ≈ 18 months · Possible ≈ 3 yrs · Not Expected ≈ 5–7 yrs
- Ticket to Work: Voluntary; while you're using it and making "timely progress," SSA suspends CDRs.
